When to plant:	Up to 3 weeks before last frost.

You can plant echinacea just a tiny bit earlier in the year because they do ok in moderate cold.

The earliest that you can plant echinacea in Zone 2a is May. However, you really should wait until June if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant echinacea and expect a good harvest is probably August. Any later than that and your echinacea may not have a chance to grow to maturity. Starting your echinacea indoors is a great way to get them started a couple of weeks earlier.

Last Frost Date

In Zone 2a the average date of last frost happens on May 15. You can expect an average low temperature of -50°F in the coldest months of winter.

Keep in mind that USDA zone info for Zone 2a may not be accurate from year to year and the actual date of last frost changes from year to year. Half of the time in Zone 2a you get a frost after May 15 so make sure that you are prepared to cover your echinacea if you have a surprise late frost.
