Since strawberries are one of those plants that can tolerate quite a bit of cold weather you can plant them a lot earlier in the year than other plants that might not handle the cold.

The earliest that you can plant strawberries in Zone 2a is April. However, you really should wait until May if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant strawberries and expect a good harvest is probably August. You probably don't want to wait any later than that or else your strawberries may not have a chance to really do well. Starting your strawberries indoors is a great way to get them started a few weeks earlier.

On average the last frost is on May 15 in Zone 2a. In the coldest months of winter you can expect an average low temperature of -50°F.

Always keep in mind that USDA zone info for Zone 2a is just an average and the actual date of last frost changes from year to year. Half of the time in Zone 2a it frosts late in the year after May 15 so just be sure to be ready to cover your strawberries if you have one of those late frosts.
