The earliest that you can plant leeks in Zone 2a is April. However, you really should wait until May if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant leeks and expect a good harvest is probably August. You probably don't want to wait any later than that or else your leeks may not have a chance to grow to maturity. Starting your leeks indoors is a great way to get them started a couple of weeks earlier.

Always keep in mind that the actual date of last frost is an average because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 2a and it changes from year to year. Half of the time in Zone 2a it frosts late in the year after May 15 so just be sure to be ready to protect your leeks if you have a surprise late frost.
