When can I plant Thunbergia in Zone 2a

One of the best tools that we have as gardeners to help us determine our gardening schedule is the USDA zone info. The zone info helps tell us things like average date of last frost and lowest expected temperature for our area.

One way of estimating when it's a good idea to plant thunbergia is to examine the USDA zone info for Zone 2a.

Thunbergia do not do well in cold weather which means that it's necessary to wait until it warms up after the last frost before you can plant them.

The earliest that you can plant thunbergia in Zone 2a is May. However, you really should wait until June if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant thunbergia and expect a good harvest is probably August. Any later than that and your thunbergia may not have a chance to fully mature. You can get started a couple of weeks earlier by starting your thunbergia indoors.

The average date of last frost is May 15 in Zone 2a. In the coldest months of winter we can expect an average low temperature of -50°F.

Always keep in mind that our actual date of last frost may not be accurate from year to year because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 2a and it is different every year. Half of the time in Zone 2a we get a frost after May 15 so make sure that you are prepared to cover your thunbergia in the event of one of those late frosts.
