When can I plant Sorrel in Zone 2a

One of the first steps we take when we are making a decision about our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The most important data that the zone info tells us is average last frost and the lowest expected temperature for our area.

The first chance to plant sorrel in Zone 2a should be determined by referring to the USDA zone info.

The earliest that you can plant sorrel in Zone 2a is April. However, you really should wait until May if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant sorrel and expect a good harvest is probably August. You probably don't want to wait any later than that or else your sorrel may not have a chance to really do well. You can get started a couple of weeks earlier by starting your sorrel indoors.

Last Frost Date

In Zone 2a the average date of last frost happens on May 15. In the coldest months of winter we can expect an average low temperature of -50°F.

Keep in mind that our actual date of last frost may not be accurate from year to year because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 2a and it changes from year to year. Since half of the time in Zone 2a we get a frost after May 15 be ready to protect your sorrel in the event of one of those late frosts.
